Hi all. Been reading through a lot of threads on this section of the forum for research and now looking for some advice on my specific quotes.
My ancient system boiler (I've been in the house 11 years and it was old even when I moved in) packed in while I was on holiday and needs replaced. I'm going for a combi boiler (my house is a fairly small two-story semi-detached, two bedrooms, one bathroom, seven radiators total). I live in the greater Glasgow area. Just me in the house.
I've had three quotes as follows.
1. £2110 [I'm assuming this includes VAT]
- Supply and fit Worcester Bosch 30CDi boiler
- Upgrade gas supply to 22mm pipe
- Install Condensate drain
- Remove all redundant pipes after installation where practical
- treat system with inhibitor and anti-freeze
- Remove all debris from our work on site on completion
- First-year service of your new boiler (no charge)
For Honeywell wireless digi stat/progrmmer add £94.
Two year warranty.
2. £1900 inc VAT
- Drain down old boiler, hot water cylinder and dispose of same.
- Supply and install Worcester Bosch 28i Junior combi boiler with external wall clock.
- Supply and install condense drain from boiler to soak away.
- Supply and install RF Wall stat
- Supply and install fused spur to isolate boiler
- Carry out power flush on system using x800
- Add x100 as an inhibitor for system.
5-year manufacturer's guarantee
Labour guaranteed for a year against defective workmanship
Manufacturer's warranty.
3. £1750 [again, I assume inc VAT].
- Supply and fit of Worcester Bosch 28i Junior.
Awaiting an email with the full breakdown/itemised detail of the work - however from discussion with the engineer, I expect it to be essentially the same as the second estimate. However he also added (during the estimate visit):
- A magnetic device fitted to the system than cleans the water while it circulates.
- New thermostat valves for six of my seven radiators.
So first question - Do these seem reasonable for the amount of work?
Also, secondly, I've done a bit of research and see that the 30CDi is about £150-£200 more expensive than the 28i - I relise that it has a slightly higher flow rate and kW output but given the small size of my house, would I benefit from spending the extra?
All opinions/advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance. :T

Good afternoon: avoid the Junior and go with the CDi if you must have a WB(a better boiler)....make sure you get a proper flush, a Magnaclean/Boiler Buddy/Spirovent, Honeywell wireless roomstat as well as the 5 year warranty that WB approved installers can offer (subject to terms and conditions) or get someone in to quote for a Vaillant, Viessmann or Remeha.;)
I can't say if the prices are typical for Scotland as we're down south.

Thanks for the quick reply Canucklehead. Can I ask you a followup?
You say the 30CDi is the better boiler and I would expect that given the added cost - but what tangible benefits would I see/get from it for the extra £200, (bearing in mind that my house is on the small side, has just the one bathroom and just the seven radiators)?
Also I appreciate that prices vary in different parts of the country. Is the going rate where you are a million miles away from my quotes. Just curious.
Many thanks again for such a quick reply.0 -

Hi... the Junior is WB's entry level boiler designed for a price sensitive market with fewer features than the CDi (more on the WB website)...no difference in terms of suitability for your property other than the 30 CDi's higher DHW flow rate.
I suspect a similar install down here would be £2500+ dependent on the standard of the installation and location i.e. inner London much more.
Whoever you go with, check his/her registration on Gas Safe Register and make sure manufacturer's installation specs are followed and the Benchmark completed (see WB installation manual for more detail).

Thanks again! All good advice. And, yes, I've checked all three firms' registrations on the Gas Safe website.
Cheers for your help.

Sorry , thanked you by mistake , i would check the VAT status on those quotes , we have recently had some boiler quotes and all were + VAT

Number two definitely includes VAT. So, it's really between 2 and 3, depending on comparing the detail of what's included in the work, when I get number 3's itemised quote.
