Debt Relief Order

This would be a life saver for me if I could get my debts to £15k - I owe approx £16.5k and am trying to get money together with reduce this amount. I have two debts with my ex but I have taken responsibility for them - if I get the money together get him to pay the debts off and will then be within the £15k limit for DRO - can I do this? Will creditors come after my ex if there are any outstanding debts on the joint accounts if I declare bankrupty or take advantage of DRO.

Any advice would be greatly rec'd
