Hope you don't mind me jumping in :)

I want to make my own bread and was toying with buying a breadmaker, do you use a BM and is it a lot cheaper than buying shop loaves?

    Ta :D

Well done on the shop by the way, I'm lucky to get out of the shop less than £100 lighter, especially when I take the OH, he's like a woman, loves to shop!

If you don't mind spending a little time kneading the dough and letting it rise I wouldn't bother with a bread maker. Besides- i like the kneading bit. very therapeutic :D

We do have a bread maker and it is cheaper than buying loaves - depending on what mood - its either the breadmaker or doing it by hand.
It tastes nicer but doesnt last as long as shop bread because it hasnt got the preservatives in it.

Again pretty similar stuff.. don't have a garden big enough to grown veg :( would be useful. Currently working on baking own bread. Well, bagels anyway, to have for lunches. My last attempt wasn't at all successful so now I'm try a different recipe!!

You can grow lots of stuff even with a small garden. You can grow potatoes on the patio - esp if you have room for a bin! Just grow them in the bin! Salad leaves can be grown in patio containers.

I have a BM but never use it now, I just knead the bread by hand, its quicker and easier than a BM and I think the resulting bread tastes nice somehow (unless I have a really crap BM!!!)
