    £130 for a 17inch TFT at Aria.

That leaves £370 to spend on the base unit

You can definitely make your own and get a better PC.

how little you know about PC displays :-)

saying that is akin to saying 'cars, they all use the same type of internal combustion engines don't they?'
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

there is no point arguing with you.....The average person does prefer a brand name and the average person also prefers to buy a pc off the shelf with the protection that offers and if someone could build one for less the savings would be minimal

Actually they do use the same internal combustion engines in many cars.

The engine in my Audi is also used by VW, Skoda, and Seat, to name just a few.

You don't really believe that everyone makes their own parts do you ?

Most brands of any product are all churned out in just a small number of factories, and then re-badged.

My car is an RX7 which is a rotary engine, completely different from virtually all other cars and is made solely my Mazda for Mazda cars :P

    Just being awkward ;)

But I agree. When it comes to monitors (CRT) there are only a handful of manufacturers in the world that actually make the tubes. They're just shipped out to other manufacturers who just put their plastic body around them and a badge on it. Same with most computer components.

This just won best budget Pc award In the Computer Buyer mag, select the no monitor option and that takes it to £320, then buy a cheap 17" TFT from Micro Direct or someplace simlar you're still only up to £450.

They want a national phone number when things go wrong - not a friend of a friend who thinks he knows what the problem is but "be prepared to buy a new hard drive"!!

from my experience of national number support they my be better off asking the friend of a friend who know a little. In fact the garden gate post may be more informative than some helplines.

a friend of a friend appointee that knows a little about computers which in normal terms makes me a computer genius for all those who know absolutely nought.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
