I'm sorry but that is just not true
an athlon xp is a 32 bit processor
an athlon 64 is a 64 bit processor. You cant comapre the two on clock speeds alone. Firslty a 64 bit processor can access many more register s. If you read up on binary maths you will see how many more. If you are using an athlon 64 with your current version of XP then it is emulating a 32 bit processor and is nowhere near reaching it performance. Recompile a limux kernel to take advantage of it an you are on your way
In a nutshell without going into too mant technical details the performacnce increase is not linear and until software that is specifically written to take advantage of a 64bit architecture you cannot really compare the two.
in addtion i am fairly sure that the die size of the semprons is smaller than athlons of 3-4 years ago am sure its down to about .13 microns now

Hi bleugh
What was the offer again? Half price wine at Asda? ;D ;D
Serves you right for posting a computer offer! ;D ;D
Seriously though, good post, ignore all the arguments, if people don't want to buy it no-one is making them.
Isn't that right MSEs?0 -
These computers have been in my Tesco since a week before xmas, and I didn't bother to mention them as they seemed not very good value.
But if you just want a PC for the internet then it will do the job.0 -
I saw them too, thought price was ok but not a "grab it" price0
-
i didnt think much of it till i saw the free printer and th e17" philips LCD, every other bundle at that price i've seen has a no-name 15" lcd
and there was only one left on the shelf - space for 4, so i figures someone should grabbit :-)money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

Thanks bleugh, ingnore the protesters, as far as I can see its a christmas special and has been on sale a couple of weeks prior to Xmas, there is still one in Huddersfield if anyone wants one and there are two lower spec ones with crt monitors for £389.
This is much better value, the Printer is an All-in- one HP 1110?.
They seem to be assembled from easy to get reasonable quality bits, upgradable bits. e.g. board seems to be a Gigabyte, keyboard/mouse Logitech , dvd-writer is Philips , comes with loads of software and on site warranty. Seem to be this one Reduced for Xmas . the only difference is the 80Gig HD Spec? tho with 80g drive was/is £719 and no printer.
Not the state of the art, but fair value. Made/assembled in Ireland by

its not bad at that price its £550 in my tesco and if u know a member of staff u can use their staff discount card and get a further 10% off which makes it £4950

That's a good point wolfytom - not everyone can build their own computers, and the people that can't want to be able to walk into a shop and buy a good system at a decent price with good after sales service.
I built my PC myself because I have the knowledge to do so (one of the few advantages of being a 17 year old A level ICT student) but I can see this is just not a possibility for many people - especially the more older generations.
And ye Krakan I have never heard such nonsense as what you said....why on earth do you need to know how a computer works in order to make full use of it?! What you are saying is so silly! If someone doesn't know how a car works but has a driving license, and is given a really nice fast car to drive, should they not be allowed to go as fast as they want because they don't know how it "goes together"?!
A-Level ICT doesnt teach you anything in regards to building a PC ;D I should know, I got an A in the crap A-Level and won the school's 'subject award' for it.0 -

Not wanting to go on here (and if it could be noted I was only trying to help people avoid buying 2 turkeys this xmas) perhaps if anyone is after a PC just for internet access I could draw their attention here:
Dell 2.6ghz 512MB Base unit £151.57
Plus add a monitor of your choice, which you can pick up for about £120 + VAT online - try the links posted just up from here..0 -
I think I was completely wrong about it being a Time computer. The make is something like IQon.0
