Hello
my brother is supposed to sign on next Monday, but he has a pre booked holiday and will not return until Monday eve. should he inform the job center of this before hand, and if he does what the possible repercussions.
Thanks Bigangus

Yes he should tell them because he is going to miss signing on & could be sanctioned. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Thanks for the quick reply cattie
will tell him.0 -
I dont think they would let u change the appointment because he is going on holiday!0

Of course they do, you aren't forced to travel home to sign on! In my experience they ask you to go in and sign on the first working day you are available after you get back.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
According to http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/money-tax-and-benefits/benefits-and-financial-support/employed-or-looking-for-work/jobseekers-allowance.htm
What to do if your circumstances change
You must tell your local Social Security / Jobs and Benefits office straight away about any changes in your circumstances. For example this could be if you:- move house
- start any kind of work, training, or a university or college course
- become ill or go into hospital
- go on holiday
- gain capital, including savings and investments e.g. property is left to you
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Assume this means he should sign off as not being available for work then resign on when he is back (assuming this holiday is out of the UK) and lose the JSA for the holiday time?0 -

My apologies, I should have expanded my reply.
In my experience when holidaying in the UK you just have to let them know when you are returning and usually you go in to sign the next working day after you get home.
I have never gone abroad whilst on JSA but from a friends experience she had to sign off whilst on hols then do a rapid reclaim once she got back. She didn't get paid JSA during this time.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
bigangus, we really need to know where he is holidaying and wether he will be available for work whilst holidaying.0

If he is in the UK he can take up to ten days holiday, but must inform the Jobcentre.
If it is outside the UK he has to sign off and then on again when he returns.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I have just been in this situation where my family was treating us to a holiday abroad for a week, i asked Jobseekers advisor what would happen if i went and basically they said if it's abroad your money would be stopped and you have to start a fresh claim when back, or if holiday was in the UK you would still have to be looking for work while on holiday.
So your best bet is arrange it between signings, although i wouldn't make a habit of it!!0
