Investing? Learn the basics here

Options
Hi all

Just to say this site (http://www.investopedia.com/university/) is IMHO exemplary in explaining the basics of economics and investing, and if youre thinking of doing so is well worth a trawl. Motley Fool (https://www.fool.co.uk) is recommended here as well but I found the site v.difficult to navigate and the discussion forums hard to use too. Being someone that likes to know the ins and outs of how things work it was exactly what I was looking for.. Unfortunately its US written and so when they explain things its the Nasdaq etc rather than the FTSE thats used but if youre trying to get to grips with the concepts of the marketplace it really is very good.

Good luck

Try this for a very thoughtful series of articles on investment-related topics. No adverts and really well written. Suitable for those new to the subject and also those with lots of curiosity. The author is a fee-based financial adviser (I wouldn't personally touch the commission-based with a bargepole) and publishes his FAQ for free.

I'd be interested in people's comments in due course!

    Looks good.

It has some important financial education pointers.
It has something for everyone - an IFA with his eyes wider open than some, but who would still call some of Martin's "sneaky" articles an invitation to "shoplift".

It's always useful to get out of your own savings and investment culture with its regulations and industry control.

In may areas, Oz is much further down the line than we are.

The UK Motley Fool site is 100% UK based - I agree that it can be difficult to navigate, though. The best place to start is probably the site map. There is a very useful list of articles here, as well.

If you want to know how the financial markets work there are two books which IMHO take some beating. One is Liar's Poker, the other is The Money Machine.

I keep beating the Incademy drum; it really is a very useful and educational site, well worth a visit even for those who consider themselves seasoned investors.
