NatWest Charges - Advice Required.

This is a success story but I need some advice as it’s a little complicated.
My account I was reclaiming charges was a closed account, it ended up being closed and registered as a default in the past due to the charges the Natwest were putting on on a nearly daily basis due to a couple of cheques that kept getting re-presented.
There were other charges though in the past that I have claimed for.
Basically, I spoke to the Natwest this morning re my FH case and its been approved. They said as the outstanding balance on my account was written off at the time, they will be deducting that balance and sending me an offer letter for the difference.
I am a little bit unsure how to proceed now as the monies weren’t actually written off, it was sent to a debt collection agency. I am happy to accept the Natwest’s offer but if I then keep getting pursued by the collection agency, won’t I be paying this money twice? Once in the money that the Natwest has deducted and then from them.
Could anyone offer any advice on the best way to proceed here.
A big thanks to this forum because I would never have done this without the posts I have read here. I was hoping just to post in the successes but this is the first time I have got stuck in the whole process! The advice is so good on here :-)

if the bank repays the money directly, that would probably be better for you.
debt collectors buy the debt from the bank at a fraction of its value (10-20%) so if you are able to treat your debt and your claim as two separate things, you can save yourself a few quid. you can quite easily haggle them down to paying half of it in a lump sum (maybe even less?)0 -
The answer is no and I think you need to tell the DCA that you have spoken to the Original Creditor which is NatWest and they have settled the bank charges claim in full which means you owe nothing to them and the Debt Collection Agency can go whistle dixie as you owe nothing. This is a success story but I need some advice as it’s a little complicated.

Thank you both for your help! I am really pleased with this outcome, because this debt was a huge black mark on my credit file. The whole thing I have found incredibly quick and the Natwest I have to say have been very nice with me. I will put that story in the success thread once I have the official offer/cheque. Thanks again, both of you.
I will enjoy telling the DCA this!!0 -
