Handing over details of your identity willy nilly to anyone that asks without asking yourself why are they needed is just irresponsible. No-one NEEDS to take a copy of your passport. All thats needed is sight of it. With those details you are handing over blithely people can get loans, mortgages, maybe the deeds to your house.

    I concur! :T

It seems that Junkmayle and I are in the minority! All most people on this thread can say is that they don't want to "jeopardise their chances" by declining to hand over the info... Funny that they seem more than happy to jeopardise their identity!

I have NEVER been asked at interview for this information and I certainly would not hand it over. That said I'm quite happy to SHOW someone my passport and my NI number. Seriously, say you attend 30 interviews (a quite likely prospect these days) – are you honestly happy for 30 companies AND their numerous employees to have access to your identity?!

If companies started demanding you bring two grand cash to interviews, I think everyone would have a multitude of questions re security, why its needed, return of said cash if not successful, who gets the interest on it.
You'd think so, wouldn't you... but I honestly wonder... ;)
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.

I am of the opinion that if the employer wants a passport photo with your application form then they should provide the cost !
