A DLA award letter or blue badge is normally fine
Though I find, being in a wheelchair I rarely have to show any proof, but it's always worth taking it, make sure it's a photocopy of award letter! 0 -
WE have neither, I'm my hubby's carer but he only gets IB. He's just had his second cataract op (thanks NHS) and has severe epilepsy.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

We went to Bristol Zoo the other year and I emailed in advance to ask if there was a special rate for carers, as my mum cares for my sis but wasn't in reciept of carers allowance. The email reply said my mum would get in free.
I took the email with me and asked for 1 diabled rate ticket and explained my mum was carer and she got in free. Didn't need any special letter or pass.
Sometimes the easiest thing to do is just to ask in advance

My elder brother is a disabled war pensioner (but only 36).
We recently spent a week in London and found with him wearing his veterans badge and carrying his war pensioner status card, we not only got me in as his carer free but in almost all places the disabled concessionary prices were waved and we both got in free.
Worth bearing in mind for any disabled veterans on here.

Chloecat, that's what I do if in doubt, sometimes I've found the people on the gate have no idea that you can even get a carer in free.. (more often at a show or something, than a themepark etc) so if I've emailed and asked, I can print the email out to show them if there's any doubt.0

That's my hubby, he was 20 years in the army. I always say he landed on his head too many times, he did though land on a concrete bollard on one leap from a plane. He did about 150 recorded jumps. We do joke about it and some people don't like it but it's our way of dealing with it?
So I need to find out how to get him a vet's badge from the RAMC?
he never took his pension when he left and I think that the rules are changed now so he has to wait till he's 60.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Hi,
To claim his veterans badge he will need to contact the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (SPVA) on freephone 0800 169 2277.
If he was injured in the forces prior to April 2005, he should also ask them about claiming a War Pension (if after April 2005 ask them about an Armed Forces Compensation Scheme - AFCS - claim). Some places in London do only allow free access if the veterans badge holder also has a war pensioners status card.(issued by the spva to war disablement pensioners/AFCS clsaimants)
If he was in the Armed Forces Pension Scheme 1975. then any preserved pension is paid at aged 60years or if one become permanently unable to work before age 60.Again the SPVA deal with it all.
If he hits any snags, his local Royal British Legion or SSAFA should be able to help him.
