second hand xbox 360 RROD problem!

Hi,

About 6 months ago, I bought a second hand xbox360 plus a load of games off ebay and paid cash on collection.

The console now has the famous 3 red rings problem so I had a look online and read that microsoft have extended the 1 year standard warranty to 3 years on all xbox 360 consoles.

I attempted to register my console online at xbox.com so i could send it off for repair, but it said a technical problem had occurred - so i presume the previous owner has regsitered the console for repair previously (something I asked about before buying and the owner said he had not even heard of the three red ring problem).

I phoned up microsoft and they said I will need the registration details of the previous owner before I can register my details so I can get it repaired for free, so I emailed the ebay seller explaining the situation and he replied saying he will try to get the details but haven't heard from him now for 3 days...

Am i screwed if I don't get these registration details?

I'm not keen on doing any home diy fixes or paying out to get it repaired....

Any advice would be appreciated, at the moment I'm just hoping the ebay seller gets back to me!

My mate had this on his xbox, without those details you may well be knackered so fingers crossed your seller gets back to you!

Failing that you could always call them again claiming it was an xmas gift from your (insert family member here) & just try & blag them... If your nice enough over the phone they may be able to help you. Other than that i dunno

    Good luck :)
  • There are sites and people who will fix the issue for around £35, its not a hard thing to do and relatively easy. Although i would not recommend doing it yourself if you have no experience of it.

thanks for the link sunshine, will prob give this a go if I'm unsuccessful with taking it back to microsoft...
  • Apparently if you wrap it in a bunch of towels and leave it running for a while, it'll start working again.

You should probably research that, mind.

I've heard of the towel trick but apparently it's only a temp fix and can damage other components (due to overheating)...
