Quick Graphic card question?

Currently i have a geforce 9600 gs 768mb on my comp, but i have a 8800gt 512mb in a box that i got from my Uncle just lying around. I heard 8800 gt is better then 9600 gs which doesnt seem to make sense since 9 series is a later generation right?
Is it worth me swapping cards, should i bother, would it actually increase my games performance? Thanks.
P.s no graphic cards recommendation pls.

I can quite believe what he is saying. Without going through comparisons, why not just swap them over and see how they perform. The change is very simple and a quick update of drivers to the latest version.
Download 3D Mark or something and run the benchmarks first, then change the card and compare the results.
Running the benchmark will take longer than changing the cards.0 -
As above, test them both yourself.0

The 9600 is essentially a cut down 8800GT. You'd be best off using the 8800GT.0

I thought the 9600 GT is a rebadged 8800GT, while the GS is a slower variant.0

Ok im going to download a benchmark thingy and test. But this is the sort of hassle i didnt want to go through. Yes, i am lazy.0

Actually, I stand corrected. The 8800gt is the same as the 9800gt. Nvidia must be the laziest chipmaker around!
8800gt will be faster than your 9600GS.0 -
hey, i need a quick reply, do i need to remove all drivers including display or except display?0
-
Actually, you only need to remove the display driver. The rest are likely to pertain to your motherboard rather than the graphics card.
To clarify: the 8800GT is substantially more powerful than a 9600GS, and whilst the 9600GT is roughly equivalent to the former, it is by no means identical. If anything it's slightly slower.
You'll find the latest drivers for all of them right here.0 -
Do you mean the 9600gso? That is a renamed 8800gs which is less powerful than the 8800gt by a significant amount, so it is likely to give you better performance if you swap to the 8800gt.
A possible area where the 9600gso might outperform the 8800gt is in very high resolutions or levels of filtering because of the larger memory size but even this is pretty doubtful because the gt is better.0 -
So which one was best then Luffy??0
