Sharing internet connection using crossover cable

I'm trying to create an ad-hoc network using a crossover ethernet cable.
The problem is that if I have zonealarm running on the machine connected to the internet, I can't accessd the internet from the other machine.
If I close zonealarm (yes I know it's silly) I can access the internet from both machines.
I've done some research and have added the "192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0" range to the the firewall trusted zone & set the level to medium, but that doesn't make any difference.
So any ideas before the remainder of my hair gets torn out.

You will need to set up some kind fo gateway on the machine that has the internet connection so the other machien can use the internet.
You can do this through internet connection sharing or some other kind of proxy but you do need this for the other machine to connect

maninblack, been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
Suspect it is Zonealarm (freebie) version that is the problem, so I'm going to try sysgate to see if that makes any difference0 -
Took 5 minutes to get it working using sysgate, had to go into the Help for sysgate to find out which applications needed to be "allowed" but it seems to work now0

glad u got it working
you never did say you had the gateway set up so assumed that was the problem all working now thoughstay lucky!

Yep.. You can't use ICS with the freebie version0 -
scheming_gypsy is right, I finally had a look at the Zonealarm forums & there was a Guru (honest) that said that.
The question is why do they have this restriction when other free firewalls don't?0
