I don't understand this...

Sorry for being an idiot, but I have no idea what a building society roll number is or where I can find mine out - due to a lot of screw-ups on the part of me, my family and my LEA, I have about 2 weeks to get my final form sent in, but I can't fill this bit out until I know what it is.

  • I have one for my Halifax account that is on the top of my statements, but as for my Abbey account, I don't appear to have one.

Last year, I just left it blank and there were no problems.

I'm sure that as long as they have your sort code and account number, there shouldn't be a problem.

easiest thing to do - give the BS a call

I set up a standing order to my dad's BS the other week, all it took was a 2 minute phone call to them..... job done....

My interpretation is that banks dont use them, its just building societies so if its a bank account that you use you wont have a roll number. If you do have one it will be obvious on your statements, itll be along with your account number and sort code. Otherwise yes give them a call.. and well done on getting into vet school (I assume), where are you going?
  • Thanks for the quick responses :)

I'm at the Cambridge vet school - actually in second year now, but couldn't remember a roll number from last year either. Ironic, really - I'm sure if they'd observed my general idiocy surrounding this year's student loan they'd rethink letting me in. :P
  • Oops - meant to add how all this turned out - I finally talked to the building society people, who were very nice, and apparently, if you give the details for a current account (at least with Nationwide, but possibly any other building society as well) you don't need to give the roll number.
