Gas prepayment meter

Hi everybody.
I have just moved into a new flat. Both the meters are prepayment. The electric meter is fine. The gas one seems to be guzzling up the credit. It is a metric meter and the boiler is an old style one that has a water tank that needs to be heated up.
I tried just turning the boiler on for two hours to check it worked and it cost over two pounds! I had it on just the hot water for 12 hours as i thought this would be cheaper than turning it on and off and this cost over four pounds.
So far i have used 12 pounds in credit for 4 units. I have tried to calculate using various formulas I have found on the net but they have only confused me more. Please help!

Have you set up an account with the supplier as your meter may be taking money for a debt for a previous tenant.0

It depends on your usage, ebico are cheap for low users but higher users will be better off with another supplier0
