Help with credit card fraud

I seem to have fallen victim to an internet scam and am totally stymied on what to do. My credit card statement lists a debit of $150 approx to onjobhelp.com, which appears to host !!!!!! sites, one of which could be adultdown.com, which also appears on the statement. I’ve never heard of this site before and I certainly would NEVER give my card details to a site like that. It appears that I will be charged monthly. When I visited the site looking for contact details, or to cancel, it needs to know user name and password. Since I have neither, I can’t move forward.I’ve lodged a dispute form with my bank but that could take some time to be resolved. What can I do?

Visiting the site was VERY silly because if anything you've been signed up for will now look even more legitimate which may be a problem if the materials are later proved to be illegal.

Keep a record of everything and fill in the forms with your bank. Don't do anything else. It's not your business.

Have you signed up for anything lately with your info?

You've done what you can - lodged the dispute form.

I would also carefully scan your PC for malware (viruses etc) and if you don't know how to do this get someone to do it for you.

This kind of fraud can happen when you get a virus/spyware. As you make purchases from legitmate sites your details get scooped up and transmitted on to third parties.

"Very silly" remark. Except for the risk of getting more malware/virus I can't see it's a problem. If anybody looked at the IP logs, they would see you did this after the transaction went through. Many people would have done the same thing in an attempt to check out what happened, or make certain that the site wasn't connected with something they had indeed signed up for. You'd only have a problem if on realising there was illegal content you then freely continued to access the site.

The site is legit and it was the bank who also instructed me to contact the site and try and determine what goods or services where ordered on the card.

It seems the OP is being told that a Continuous Charge Authority was set up. If he doesn't recognise this as being his transaction, he should just dispute it. It's not for him to do the investigation.

The computer is fully up to date with adware , virus and spybot software and these run each a couple of times a week.

Oh you are the OP "tathraman" ?
  • ..for your input. I'll just have to wait for my bank to sort it out - but if I'm to have a recurring charge, it's going to be a headache!Cheers
