19tv77 Hi and Welcome
My brother and sister in law got married in Rome. They organised it all themselves.
As they wanted a Catholic wedding service they had help from our local priest at home here who helped organise a chapel in Rome, which was stunning and also our local priest travelled with us to officiate the service. Also because they wanted a Catholic service in particular this was the main reason for holding in Rome the papal city.
My SIL used tripadvisor and google and lots of search engines to find out what was the best hotel and for food, once she saw one she liked she emailed them for a package. The hotel was able to put her in contact with a florist and a photographer who where all fantastic and we travelled to the venues either on foot or by taxi. Infact we got taxi's from the Chapel to the Trevi fountain for photographs and then walked as a group through the streets to the hotel - some of the photographs of just the families walking through the cobbled streets of Rome where fantastic!!!
They then honeymooned in Venice and other area's without us all tagging along

No we didn't, but we got by the same as you would on any holiday with basic translations. It's actually something I've always admired with other countries in how alot of the citizens are bi-lingual, I'd love to be and I suppose looking back now it would have made things alot easier.

But the wording of the wedding service,it's not like a menu,is it!!?
I understood most wedding services required a translator.0 -

We brought our local priest with us so I suppose it was great for us, we made the mass booklets at home on the computer so no translations needed.
I'm sure if anyone wanted a priest to officiate - there are alot of english speaking priests in Italy, especially in Rome and it could be organised through your local parish at home.

Hi, Firstly welcome and congratulations 19TV77!
Myself and my HTB are both scooter enthusiasts and have ridden to Italy before (Venice, Como and Pisa) and thought we would encorporate our wedding into a riding holiday. HTB has been married before and we both don't want a lot of fuss or a big wedding. After looking at different areas we have decided that we would like to get married with a civil ceremony in Positano (the town hall balcony has a stunning view of the sea)
I have gotten as far as looking at some of the wedding planner services on offer but only really need them to book the ceremony sort out the paperwork and provide an interpreter.
Can anyone recommend a company or person that will just provide these services?
These are some of the sites I have looked at:
http://www.matrimoniando.it/en/index_e.htm
http://www.justgetmarried.com.au/italy/index.htm
http://www.mrs2be.com/getting-married-in-italy.php (some useful information and links on here)
My mate got married at the town hall in Positano in May 09 - her day was a lavish affair but that was partly due to the cost of the hotel (£500 a night:eek:), they organised the photographer, flowers etc for her. One thing you will need to get especially if your H2B has been married before and that is something called a Nulla Osta - I think you get this from the foreign and commonwealth office but I cannot be sure - https://www.fco.gov.uk - that has a mine of information on what is needed as you will need to visit the British Embassy out in Italy too. You will need to be in the town where you are getting married 3 days before your wedding as there are forms to be completed etc. etc.
A planner can save money and one in a foreign country will know the laws and can recommend photographers etc as this is difficult to do from the UK especially if you can't speak Italian.0 -
The worst case scenario would be getting there for the wedding and finding you had the wrong documentation.I think if you have a civil wedding you need to lodge your documents with your local register office and it needs to be done not more than x weeks before the wedding.I think that documents then has to be taken to the Italian embassy by yourself , by appointment(?)not post, and it eventually gets converted to a Nulla Osta (no impediment) and then at a later date you have a "legal marriage "where you sign a document in the local town hall or whatever, then finally your wedding ceremony in a civil wedding hall or town hall. Some famous town halls try to stop non-italian nationals from marrying in the popular locations,as there would be no spaces left for the locals due to international popularity.0

Hello! My name is Jessica Zais and I am a wedding/portrait photographer from Kelowna, BC Canada. I just thought I'd make a note here that I will be in Italy mid May (date flexible) as I am photographing a wedding in Wales, UK, May 29, 2010 and want to go to Italy for a week or more beforehand. So I thought I might as well spread the word in case someone is looking for a deal on photography for their Italian wedding as I am taking my business to the next level by breaking into the destination wedding business. I am offering super cheap deals for destination weddings as it is a give and receive situation for both parties. : ) My website link is on my profile and contact info is all there as well if you'd like to talk more. I can't post links unfortunately. Typing Jessica Zais Photography into google will do the trick too. ; )0
