    Thank you Mo2,

If i were to take an assignment and then have to release it (obviously, hopefully this wouldn't happen), would i then find it harder to get another assignment? or even not get an assignment at all in future?

Sorry, I can't help you with that as I've only done 3 jobs myself. I'm sure someone a lot more knowledgeable than me will be able to help, but I'd say that if you had a valid reason then no, it shouldn't affect you getting any other assignments ..... but then I may be wrong

    Can anyone knowledgeable help here?

Not yet no. Although I have just done a couple of jobs so need to write up the reports.

Nothing at all! Did manage to pick up a released phone shop with GRoots earlier today through shear luck and good timing!

Wonder if there'll be a big RE upload at some point?!?!

Also had a toughie at a phone shop today where I was meant to get a business card, this wasn't offered so I asked and the staff member said they'd just write their name and store phone number on the leaflet they had already given me "to save me carrying different bits of paper" terribly customer helpful but not so easy to explain to a MS company!!!

MS companies that have a points system will subtract some points from you. Often they will ask for a reason why you are releasing it. I think on the odd occasion it's okay but repeatedly will not be favorable and the tougher companies will not require your services any further.

Just applied for TNS; will wait and see what happens.

Does anyone work for eDigitalResearch.com - what are they like?

As a completely non-MS related thing, anyone else who is a Mum may appreciate this. I was stood up on a chair reaching something high up, and my rising 3 year old son came over. He said 'no Mummy, get down - not on chair'. He then held out his hand, told me to hold it and 'helped' me down. When I got down I was told off again 'norty Mummy' and he went shuffling off to watch his programmes. I :rotfl:!!!!

  • Last question for tonight:

In your opinion, are there any MS companies i should avoid (out of the ones listed on the front page). for example, i have read a few bad things written about RE in here, is that the general opinion?

Also, if anyone could help with the question i asked on the previous page, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you :0)

The best thing you could do is listen to all the advice, but make up your own mind by working one or two jobs for all of them.

This way you can see what works for you.

    Okay, so hi everyone.

Also, in terms of tax forms, assuming i will be earning under 6k a year, am i correct in thinking that i would not have to fill out any tax forms? but that i would simply have to fill out the self employed form?

Also, say for example i wasn't ready to start MSing until next month, but wanted to get the self employed form out of the way, if i was to complete it now, would it matter? And what would happen if i completed the self employed form but then couldn't actually complete any MSing assignments, would i have to complete another form to say i was no longer self employed?

and similarly, once a person has decided to stop MSing, do they have to declare themselves no longer self employed?

I think thats all, my apologies if there is something that is covered in this thread or i've asked a silly question.

    Thanks

Hi, I used to work for the Inland Revenue so will try to answer your questions.

You are required to complete a tax return to declare any self employed income even if it is so low you won't end up paying tax on it. The self employed form is just to record your details on the system so that the Revenue knows to send you a tax return for the correct tax year. They have brought in short tax returns (STR) which are simplified versions of the longer standard version and are for those earning under £15,000, however I can't remember whether you get sent a standard tax return for your first year in order to assess your income. So basically you will need to complete both the self employed form and the tax return when it is sent to you.

When you have decided to cease self employment you will need to write the date of cessation on your tax return which should ensure you won't get sent a tax return for the next year. If you do receive a tax return, even though you have declared yourself to be no longer self employed on your previous years tax return, a letter to your local tax office will ensure you won't need to complete it.

No a silly question at all, and good luck with your MSing :)

Edit - forgot to add that there is a helpline number on your tax return that you can ring for advice when filling in your return, whether online or paper. They are pretty simple really and come with an instruction booklet so I'm sure you'll be fine.

I had the same thing happen to me and I just scanned the leaflet/booklet and explained what had happened - no probs ;)
