Advice pls.re MBNA

A friend of mine applied for an MBNA card about 6 months ago and got it, he was a bit surprised as he has a default.
The account has been run correctly no late payments or charges, anyway he phoned them up and requested a credit limit increase as he wants to come to America with me in a couple of months time.
Now comes the problem, he was told that there was a mistake in issuing the card and the matter was going to be refered.
Anyone come accross this before is he likely to loose the card or are MBNA likely to let him carry on with it.

Thanks vw

I would imagine that in legal terms this would come under estoppel.

They can decide to close the account and recall balance of the account at any time as per their terms and conditions though.

I'm sure if he has been a good card holder they will probably let him keep the card.
If not he has 6 months of good credit record to make getting another card easier :)

God what if your like £10,000 in the red (like I am) and can't afford to pay it off at once, because of a mistake they made?

As luck would have it my friend only has about £500 on the card with a £1k limit, and he could pay it off, but as he says he has been a good customer to MBNA and with the way he has conducted himself after seeing this they (MBNA) could/should leave him to carry on, at least they will know that he will bend over backwards to carry on being a good customer.

    Me I'm not so sure..........
