Surely if you're covering it then it won't dry out properly?

I can see your problem :D

Bare concrete floor for that amount of time is no joke.
But it will take weeks to dry fully and you would be wise to think about wot to temp
    cover it with.
Was thinking rugs.... easily moved around but likely to be rubber backed.
So hessian backed carpet would be my choice, but why not look
at freecycle ?? 2nd hand , tatty carpet must be better than a grey floor.
  • Hi Had the same problem after a mains water leak. Top screed was dug out and replaced. It was not sealed so gave off a lot of dust/grit. We went to CarpetRight and got several metres of the cheapest felt backed stuff in stock...it was 4 metres wide on the roll anyway! Hacked it into rug bits using a carpet blade on a stanley knife. Because it frayed easily I went round the edge with a lighter/candle flame, which melted the 'nylon' bits and stopped it unravelling. (Tested flammability on an offcut outside first!!) Every few weeks when the 'mats' were full of dust/grit we just threw them away and cut another bit off to replace it!
It really made things more pleasant in the kitchen and didn't seem to affect the drying

    Hi,

You can get a cheap cord carpet for around £2 per square metre. Failing that, what about simply loose-laying some remnants down? There will be loads available from your local carpet stockist, and you may be able to do a deal if you're buying more than one....

Ended up buying a cheap carpet from a local shop. cost £65.00 (4X4 M). They will deliver it and fit it. We can't bear all the dust with an year and 3 year old at home.

    Thanks for all the suggestions
