Problem with mouse buttons on laptop?

I hope I have done this correctly as I have never used this thread before:

I have a HP Compaq laptop which I purchased from Sainsburys about a month ago. The mouse buttons have suddenly stopped working so I cannot click on tabs etc. The mouse pad still directs the cursor and I can select by double tapping the pad but the buttons simply do not work.

Im very worried as although I still have the receipt I forgot to send teh warranty off. So firstly please is there anything I can try to rectify the problem?

Secondly if it seems a majot fault where do I stand about returning the laptop?

Thank you for any advice and please be gentle as I am not the best at using computers

Are you talking about a separate mouse, or the buttons on the touchpad?

Was something spilled over the buttons?

I'd just take it back to the shop with receipt and ask for a replacement, don't get fobbed off with an offer to repair.

problem being if brought from a supermarket it was probably a special deal, and they wont have any stock left to replace it with, i brought i hp compaq from morrisons about a month ago, so i am getting slightly worried now, it was not the cq60-305ea was it o/p

You are entitled to the warranty under law, you don't have to send anything off to get a warranty.
Because you fill in your address and contact details, It's simply a way for them to make more money by firstly targeting you with product advertising and secondly passing your details on to affiliate companies for a small fee, so that those companies can target you with advertising too.

Take it back and kick up a stink!

Certainly you are entitled to have it fixed wherever it came from. If they can't or won't just replace it and you don't want to be without it then a cheap USB mouse will work fine.

Have you checked the settings in Control Panel for the touchpad? Or there's usually an icon for the touchpad in the Taskbar to access the same.

  • I had a problem with my old hp which was still under warranty, so I called hp, they gave me a reference number, and so the shop had to replace it without repairing it, because they then send it back to hp
If you think it will take more than 3 hours to fix a software problem it is probably quicker to reinstall windows. 30 mins to install windows, 2½ hours to reinstall all your nice software
