DVD Recorder

can anyone help and advise please.

I wish to purchase a DVD Recorder. The main purpose is to transfer all my tapes from camcorder onto dvd and to transfer VHS tapes on to DVD, However the amrket seems to be flooded,

is there any advantage to buying a twin dvd recorder and vhs recorder, argos have one at present for £200 which seems good value, this being a Bush DVRHS01

WHICH IS BETTER DVR-RW OR DVD+RW

Many thanks
Nice to save.

  • DVD- is better. But you should find most players can handle DVD+ anyway.

I think it would be unlikely that the twin machines allow you to copy from VHS to DVD, as this would promote illegal copying of video tapes. So you might be better off getting a single DVD recorder as I can't see any need for dual function (unless your VCR has packed up hehe).

@StrikeEagle. You say that DVD- is better. Can you quote references to material where there has been an evaluation of the relative differences between DVD- and other standards. You may be correct but I would like to be convinced by the conclusions of detailed studies.

  • DVD- is compatible with more players, so in my opinion that makes it better.

DVD+ was created with the help of Sony, and it was aimed more at computer data storage...but then you might as well just buy DVD-RAM.

    Hiya

I have got this DVD recorder and find it really good. However like someone else said the copyright protection thingy kicks in on a lot of the stuff I want to record onto backup DVD - does anyone know how this can be overcome as these are my videos I just want to transfer onto DVD so we can watch them in the car etc.

thanks a lot and don't mean to hijack the OP's post - but it's a good recorder so if it can be overcome well worth investing in.

    :)

https://www.sonel.com offer a macrovision removing scart cable to create personal backups

another possible way which I have seen work before but doesn't always work as it seems to depend on software in the VCR and DVD recorder(and also the protection on the video) is to connect the two appliances up by scart, press record on the DVD recorder then press pause, now press play on the VCR, then unpause the DVD recorder, it seems to work sometimes as the macrovision/copyright check sometimes only kicks in when the record button is initially pressed on the DVD-R.
