New window in house wall

We would really like to have a second window fitted in our sitting room and have a builder coming round to see if this is possible and give a quote.

Our main concern is damage to existing wall. We have spare wallpaper, so having to do a bit of redecoration isn't a problem, but what happens on the outside wall? Some similar houses around us have had problems with harling cracking and then falling off in slabs exposing the brickwork underneath, but we've been clear of this so are concerned about disturbing the existing wall.

Have you had similar work done? Was there much damage around the new window, or does the new one slot neatly in? What we can't afford is to have to reharl the whole wall, or be left with an unsightly patch showing that work has been done on the wall. (This is the front wall of our house.

Sorry I feel I'm not explaining this clearly enough, but hope you get the meaning.
