UK student parents live in EU not UK tax system

Does anyone have any advise on how to present income to Student Finance England when working abroad. We live in Belgium and pay Belgium income tax. Does the Finance office take into account the high rate that is paid here in comparasion with the UK tax rates and also the high deductions for Social Security etc. I would be grateful to hear of anyone in a similar situation and any tips.

Student Finance does take into account living costs in that they change the repayment thresholds (the amount you need to be earning before you have to make repayments) per country. For Belgium this threshold is at £15,000 i.e. the same as if you were living in the UK. The 9% of earnings you are expected to repay is fixed regardless of where someone lives.

Thank you for your reply. My question was regarding the start of the process. The amount of deductions on our monthly gross earnings works out at about 36%. This includes social security. This seem pretty fixed per month and you then apply and receive any refund/demand about one and half years later. In my reconing this makes us look like we earn a great deal more that we actually receive in the bank every months. Is there some sort of system to account for this?0

It is the gross taxable income I'm afraid. So they would need to supply the belgian equivalent of a P60.0
