Another Simple One I Hope

I have a 17" philips monitor and ever since i have had it pictures on the net are very dark compared to my laptop i have tried playing with the controls on the monitor but it just does colour not brightness some picture i cannot even make out. Any ideas?

    Right-click on your desktop and select 'Properties.' Click on the 'Settings' tab (top, far right), then click on 'Advanced' (bottom right). That should open a set of menus that will allow you to make various adjustments to your graphics card output to the monitor. You should be able to adjust (try in this order) gamma, contrast and brightness from there.

    When you have the settings you are happy with click 'Apply' and then 'OK' all the way back out to the desktop.
