Hello everyone,
I have decided to start making smoothies, but I dont have a smoothie maker, would it be okay to use a blender, it has a milk shake and ice cream section on it?

Hi Jackie,
I just use my stick blender for making smoothies as it's quick and easy to clean, but this thread might help:
What is the difference between a smoothie maker and a blender?
And there are lots of lovely smoothie recipes on this thread:

I use a stick blender too, as it is quick and easy to use and clean up. If I want it extra frothy I add some ice cream but usually it is fine with fruit/yoghurt or milk or fruit juice/honey or sweetener.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

I have a dedicated smoothie maker, but I never use it - too much bother. My Braun stick blender is more than equal to the job, even if I'm using frozen fruit instad of fresh, and sooooo much easier to clean.Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds Live is AWESOME!!2009 Sealed Pot Challenge Banked £100Comp wins: Shearer Candles (£43)Depressed, dieting, binge-eater with gastric bypass. I wasn't aware there was such a thing as a smoothie maker
Any appliance that processes food to a pulp will do the job -processor, blender or stick blender. 0 -
Thanks everyone, Ive also got a stick blender so will try both of those things. The fact that the stick blender is easier to clean will probably mean that I will use that more.
If im making smoothie makers what type of container should I make them in. I dont actually have alot of plastic containers so I will need one that will be safe to use when blending. Any ideas where I can get one?

You can make smoothies in any plastic, glass, metal or ceramic container. They need to be tall and narrow rather than wide and shallow to prevent splashes, but you shouldn't need to buy anything special. I make mine in a measuring jug.0

I use an IKEA plastic measuring jug (1 litre I think) but any tall container would do.
By the way, if you use frozen fruit you don't need to defrost as it makes it lovely and chilled. I forgot to mention I also use tinned peaches in juice (or even in light syrup - value brands are fine) with raspberries which is nice too.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
I use our glass blender for smoothies....
I always put in - banana, yogurt, fruit juice + assorted fruit (whatever is in the fridge or fruit bowl!)0 -
I have a green smoothie most days. I use my stick blender, but wish I had a Vitamix to break the ingredients down better. I must say though, it's the next best thing and much cheaper!IAAR/IAAMM/MFTMFAQ/IOA6BH0

LOL. I was given mine as a Chrstmas present a few years ago. It's basically a blender with a pouring tap that you can put your glass under! :rotfl:
I now use my stick blender with the beaker that came with it, and drink straight out of that, with no need to dirty another glass. Bliss.
I LOVE my stick blender
