Since having got Sky tv I'm becoming more & more aware & saddened by the amount of pure abuse, neglect & cruelty towards domestic pets & animals & how people seem to get away with it or get off verylightly with no more than a telling off & not to do it again, which often they do do.

I already support WSPA, but it's got me wondering if there are any animal welfare charities that actively fight for more severe penalties in animal cruelty/neglect cases for domestic animals. I'd like to remember them in my will if one exists.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Speaking from personal experience I'd say be wary of some of the larger animal charities...the money doesn't always end up where it should, but do some research and you can make up your own mind...if it were me, I'd look at smaller charities which have more of a "focus". There's a lot of them out there, and sometimes I feel they have more drive than some of the bigger charities...that's just personal opinion, though.

The smaller charities tend to concentrate more on the welfare of animals in their care, don't they? The RSPCA do a lot of campaigning work but a lot of people criticise them for this.

Personally I don't trust the RSPCA as far as I can throw them...yes, they spend a lot of money on advertising, but what good is that if they don't follow through? I've had so many people complain that they've tried calling them about an animal in distress and the RSPCA have refused to respond. The RSPCA just want the glory...World Horse Welfare is the same and I've seen them taking credit for work that is not their own. It just doesn't sit well with me.

Thanks for your input & I have to say I agree with you all regarding RSPCA & some of the other national charities, which is one reason why I don't support them & tend to go for the smaller, more hands on charities.

WSPA is the one international charity I support because they have actively successfully campaigned to governments about some dreadful animal cruelties, such as dancing bears & their focus does seem to be very much on the welfare of animals.
