Can't save a webpage any more AND IE shuts down immediately

Hi - well, these are my problems at the moment :eek::eek:

(1) I can't save a webpage on Firefox- it will only save as HTML only, Web Page Complete (i.e. everything in its own little document), a text file or "all files".

(2) I can't open Internet Explorer at all. And I can't open old saved webpages that I saved when I used IE either.

I've just re-installed IE7, but that hasn't done anything. I've run CC Cleaner, my AVG and Stopzilla safeguards, both of which I've had for about 18 months, are up to date. Does anyone have any clue what's going on? The only thing I can think of is that something like this started when I installed IE8 for a day or so, and rapidly uninstalled it. Do I need to do something more thorough? I really don't know what's going on. :o

Thanks in advance.

    Stick with firefox :p

I don't understand why you save webpages?? Do you like to view them "offline"?
If not then just save the link/bookmark instead of the whole page...
If you click on the icon next the address (just infront of http) and drag that icon to a folder or your desktop, you then have a shortcut/link to the page for future reference.

Some web pages won't allow you to save all the files/content to your own computer, especially if they contain flash.
Saving web pages in a prehistoric dinosaur leftover from the days of 56k dial up connections.

Hi there, thanks for the reply - yes, I like to view pages offline (often stories, fan fiction). Its not just about that tho, its that I used to be able to save them and now I can't. Sticking with Firefox doesn't fix it. I'm not on a dinosaur connection anyway, I'm on Virgin cable, at a tested speed of 6.5 whatever it is.... Even when I save as a text file, the html code is now visible.... :(

    Any other ideas welcome.

    Love the piccie! Thanks!

to read files from the firefox cache get mozillacacheview
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mozilla_cache_viewer.html ,small and compact, nothing to install, simple to use.
    to read html as text
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/htmlastext.html removes all the html code.
they have a load of free software on there.

You probably screwed up IE by uninstalling IE 8. Best bet there is to reinstall 8.

My FireFox (3.5) will either save plain html or html+the other stuff like pictures css javascript etc. Although the dropdown shows text files it will not save in text only format. I don't know if it ever would. If you want just text do a CTRL-A CTRL-C then paste into notepad with CTRL-V.

Can you open one of your saved html files using FireFox? If so it may just be the file association is wrong (probably to the defective IE).

bleep. Is there a chance I could've installed it wrongly? I'm sure thats when I started not being able to open some old documents.

Yep, thats what I used to be able to do - either! I'd prefer html+the otherstuff. I certainly don't *want* just text, but if I have to, for now, I will - I'm researching a website, and I need some info offline.

Sob..... no, I can't. That sounds like its more than the file association thats wrong (I don't know what that is, btw, sorry - I *feel* like I'm intelligent, but I'm not particularly techie.... sorry.

And thank you for all this!
