OOOh I can assure you, a typical 90 year old he aint. He's all there with his cough drops!! Hes only just this year stopped singing in a stage show due to commitments to my poorly mother, he has the most fabulous voice. People cant believe he is actually 90.

I want to meet your father - he sounds like a true legend

I hope you and your father get it sorted.

Thank you all so much for your replies, I think I will go down the i Plate route and see what happens.
In days gone by they would probably have come out and fitted a new master (latest contain the same components as the iPlate) but in their parlous state these days they may want to charge.

My view is that it is a line fault which they should fix as part of the service but not worth persuing if a self fix iPlate could be fitted. Let's hope they agree to fix it for no charge.

    Crosstalk, perhaps?

Yeah I think this, especially if you think you are hearing police radio and all that jazz.

A long time ago on a very old PC, I had a specific sound card. Sometimes I would hear faint voices at random (not too often) and could sometimes distinguish what sounded like "police/fire/ambulance" radio talk.

I knew it used to happen and then one day I heard a police car whizz past and about 20seconds before I heard some sort of "Sierra, Foxtrot, Tango, Nine, Three, blah blah blah" through my PC speakers.

This was a while ago, I had NO antena, tv tuner, receiving materials on my PC yet I could hear this stuff in my speakers. My guess is that due to the power of signal the EMS force use on their radio, electronic parts (sound card) were picking up faint signals when they were using the radio near by.

( I live in a city centre and always something goign on, happening).

Interesting but could be the issue.

sounds far fetched (what im about to say) but its possible the electronics in the microfilters are picking up radio signals, i think theres a few coils and capacitors in there, but personally i cannot see how they could pick up such signals, thats the only way i can think it could happen.

Most Police and the like transmissions are now Digital and encrypted so unlikly to be that.

Does he have Waden Call system on the wall or does him or your mother wear an emergency pendant?

Now theres a thought, all the flats have the call system in them. Theirs is Initial Community Care - "concept plus".
  • Someone visiting my parents actually heard a childs voice say "Are we going to the beach yet Dad?". That is what made me think more towards taxi radio or crossed line from a private home. Im waiting for a reply from BT faults department about changing the box.
