    Were i work we usto have a contract with Tesco, we received all the faulty laptops, we would fix them then re sell them. The amount of laptops we usto get with missing parts was unbelievable and they were no way of finding out who the owners were. Tesco's usto have a very easy returns policy, you took it to the shop and they replaced it 90% of the time without testing it.

    Valid point, Adam, I know that Asda used to be the same. John Lewis, on the otherhand, are less forgiving.

    I think this is the best place to post this... I got a laptop from Play.com but after a few days it's developed a few faults I thought I could live with until last week. Play.com are going to collect the faulty one tomorrow and then sort me out with a replacement. I was just thinking though, what would happen if someone were to swap a RAM chip or the battery with another? Not saying I'm going to do it, but the thought did cross my mind for a brief second. I'm merely curious as to what would happen from there. I'm not going to do it because I don't want to do anything that might cause a delay in me getting my replacement.

    Excellent idea, stealing is a great MoneySaving technique if:

    - you don't get caught and;

    - you think your right to get money overides someone else's right to keep their money and;

    - you think your rights and duties as an individual overide any obligations others might think you have to society.
    loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

    The only prblem here is that all Play have said is they will pick up THEN sort you out with a repair.

    It sounds to me that they may check your claim out and all it would take is for them to turn the comp on and it would be apparent. This would then mean you have been inside it tampering and would therefore invalidate your warranty.

    They would then just send back the old comp and you would have no way of getting a repair/replacement for it.

    If they were going to give you the replacement as they picked up the other then maybe it would go undetected but even then extremely risky
