Should I claim for TV on home insurance??

Hi there,
The other day my neice was playing in my front room, she spun around with something and it hit my wall hung TV. She was in hysterics and the TV is completely knackered - the screen is black and all the colours behind have run (kinda looks like a funky picture when it's on!!)
I told my brother what had happened and in a sort about way he offered to pay. Well he has gone and spent loads of money on various things but not offered again to get me a new TV and I feel really bad about asking for money as it was an accident. Luckily we still had an old TV which we are using but our front room isn't big and now looks like a TV shop.
Someone today mentioned claiming on the house insurance. Obviously I'm going to have to make sure we are covered for accidental damage. If so, is it worth claiming on it i.e. will they give me money for an equal TV, will the insurance not go up too much and future insurance not be affected too much??
Sorry for the long post! Hope some people have advice as I've never claimed on the insurance.
Oh yes forgot to say - our fridge freezer broke a couple weeks back and we've just had it replaced and I wanted to claim for my food loss on the house insurance.
Advice much appreciated

As long as you do have accidental cover then you might get given vouchers to buy a comparible tv. It is very likely that your insurance premium will go up on renewal because of the claim & if you are also going to claim for the loss of frozen food, this will push the premium up further.
You will need to confirm claims made to any other insurance companies for a period of approx 5yrs should you wish to change insurers once a claim has been made. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
you can get british gas coverfor parts and labor for the fridge freeze rit costs about a tenner i think. i used to have a oven that kept breaking if they cant fix it then they replace it if you start the cover today then claim on wednesday or something i used to just take out the cover when i needed it then claim a few days later there is no tie in period so cancel it the nextmonth.0

Well luckily I had bought cover for my fridge freezer when I purchased it a few years back and had it replaced for free (thank God). But I had to throw a load of food away so was going to put in a claim for the food.
I'm not sure about claiming on both so thought perhaps claiming for one or the other. As the TV is the mot expensive I may claim for that and cut my losses on the fridge freezer food.
It's just with it not being my fault I'm going to be losing money for not claiming for food + pay higher insurance premium. I really feel bad on my brother but he's in a much better financial situation than me so don't know what to do for the best :eek:0 -
i know it was an accident but at the end of the day you still have a tv that needs replaced, i would ask him about as if you claim on your insurance your premiums will go up next year. if my kid damaged something even if it was an accident i would pay. my kid my responsibility.0

With most policies you do not actually need accidental damage cover to claim for accidental damage to a TV.0

That would be fraud.
You can't enter into one of these appliance insurance contracts knowing that your appliance is already broke.0
