HFC Bank - Laptop Purchased on Credit - HELP!

Hi,
Does anyone know of how I can get my money back?
Thanks.
Daphine.
Thanks for reading this.
I purchased a laptop on credit using HFC bank and paid it off in May 2009 by a standing order. Unfortunately, as I was moving house and one thing and another I forgot to cancel the standing order! So in July 2009 the same amount was debited from my account. I tried to cancel the standing order, but my bank said it was impossible as a standing order is a guaranteed payment. I contacted HFC bank and was informed that yes my account had been paid off and they had no record of this additional amount, but also said that if extra money had been received then due to banking rules this would be re-paid to me within 14 working days.
Suffice to say 14 working days have since passed. I have telephone them at least three times and have also wrote to them.
I have had no response to my letter and their call centre not only does not know where my money is, they are not able to even track it!
I'm at a loss and over £200.00 down!

I'm afraid you will have to pursue HFC for this payment. As you failed to cancel it, your bank have only complied with your instructions. I would ask your bank for written confirmation of the payment and to whom it was sent.
Once you have those details, copy them to HFC with a request for repayment. Give them a reasonable time to investigate and repay (say 28 days). Should they fail to do so, you can contact the Financial Ombudsman and ask them to investigate. They should be able to resolve the matter quickly for you.0
