Making DVD from old photos?

Does anyone have any experience of doing this? I have 30-40 standard size photos (not digital) that I want putting onto DVD - as a slideshow - family presentation.

We have been quoted £200 for this to be done by so called pro's.

Does anyone know of anywhere that could do this? Or would I be better (cheaper) doing it myself?

If so, whats the best software to use? Would a consumer scanner reproduce the same quality as taking it to a pro??

Any help would be much appreciated!

p.s - Not related to my thread - just thought of something else, when I plug my camera into my TV via the video-in/out and view the digi pics on my TV the TV seems to 'flicker' like a low spec CRT monitor running at 60Hz....Its uncomfy on the eyes so would a DVD slideshow (still pics) be the same on a TV?

As your slideshow is for showing photos to your family, I wouldn't have thought that spending £200 doing it could be justified. If you got yourself a decent scanner and scanned them in yourself, you could create a slideshow DVD where each photo is displayed for a certain length of time before moving on to the next one.

A free piece of software like THIS should suffice.

Hi T4 sorry for the delay.
Sister did bring some photos round they range from 18 years old to about 12 years old.
I scanned them in I have an old Epson perfecion 610 about 8 year old.
I did use auto levels in photoshop on each image "sorry I just went into auto pilot"
Anyway I added an audio track and run the photo's thru proshow takes no more than 10 mins.
Thats just for a test because you can spend hours on this kind of thing if you want to be really creative.
Anyway the photos look as good as they do in the flesh so it all comes down the source photo's if they are in decent shape you should be fine.

Do you have a scanner? Do you have/use photoshop or simliar software?
  • Post them to me - I'll do them for nothing! PM me.

Be careful. Once everyone see's how good the result is, everyone will want you to do them a version!! :p I use Ulead CD & DVD Pictureshow - http://www.ulead.com/dps/runme.htm Very simple to use and great results. Remember to keep you DVD simple by not adding every transistion possible, just because the effect is there, it doen't mean you have to use it. The best effect is to fade from one photo to another and if the package you end up using has it, use the `Ken Burn's' effect. This slowly zooms in on a photo and is very effective. Also selecting the right piece of music can help capture the moment. ;)

Can you advise whaich one is Ken Burn's effect? I have installed Ulead DC & DVD Pictureshow 4.0

Does anyone know where I can download some music that would 'fit' a slideshow presentation?

    Thanks..

ok, the Ulead pictureshow is the type of thing i'm looking for. It has a PERFECT pink photo frame which is exactly what I'm looking for....but this package is so limited to what you can do with the actual photo....

Some of mine that I want in a presentation are landscape and portrait so when I use the pink photo frame the lanscape pics look ok but the portrait pics chop off the head and feet.....If I had a little more freedom with 'moving' the pics I could re-position it so the legs are cut off and the face is there...

I know I can edit the pics before hand with PSP10. This would take bluumin ages....Anyone else used something like I want?

Don't take offence m8 but maybe thats why company quotes £200 for doing the job.
