Dumped in debt

Well I have had a dreadful week. OH told me on Tuesday he was leaving me on Friday. We have lived together on and off for 12 years. During this time he has had various jobs and been sacked from a couple which led me to use my CC for everyday expenses. The debt has accumulated to £3k mostly because I was paying £75 a month and they were putting £50 interest on. I am on Incapacity at moment due to health issues. Just do not know what to do. I cannot balance transfer as I am not working and he refuses to help even though he is working. What a mug I have been. Any help gratefully received. I really do not want to be blacklisted from getting credit. I have had the credit card about ten years.

I suppose the first thing I would do is secure your finances. Don't wish to pry, but if he has access to any of your PINs, additional cards, envelopes of cash, joint accounts etc., you should secure these.

If, by chance, you have unused credit cards I'd certainly ring them up and ask if they've got an BT deals running. You might be able to reduce your interest bill and they are very unlikely to enquire as to your income.

If you are married to him, then there are other things to consider.

There's a "debt" forum (can't work out the link at the moment).. maybe browse to there for more useful advice.
