I've got a desktop with XP and a wirless Laptop that were conected to a netgear WGR614 router. I've done a clean reinstall of XP on the desktop and now cant get ti to work again.
I plugged the ethernet internet cable into the internet bit on the router, and a cable from the modem to the router in no. 1 and then switched them both on. I then tried to connect to http://192.168.1.1/ but theres no internet connection.
What have I done wrong?

So does the laptop wi-fi still work? Why did reinstalling XP lead to rejiggering the modem and router?0 -
Routers ip address could be 192.168.0.10
-
Sounds like you've mixed them up -
Connect the modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port
Connect your PC's ethernet port to the router's No1 LAN port.
Oh and as Wherryman says Netgear usually use http://192.168.0.10 -
The ip for this router is 192.168.1.1
other Netgear routers can be 192.168.0.1
Are you trying to connect wirelessly or with the lan cable?
Andrew Rimmer 2009If you think it will take more than 3 hours to fix a software problem it is probably quicker to reinstall windows. 30 mins to install windows, 2½ hours to reinstall all your nice software0 -
That router seems to have had a few different default IPs over time, depending the exact version/revision.
Seems to go up to at least WGR614v9.
So check any documentation that came with it, look up your version number on Netgear's website, or look up the setting on somewhere like portforward.com.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Firefox had it right, I got the wires mixed up. Thats what you get for trying to sort things out in the evening after a long day with a tired grumpy toddler climbing on your back for horsey rides every time you bend down to coneect some wires up.
All sorted now!0
