anti-virus which best/free?

hiya guys!

just wondering which ant virus software is best an if possible free?

i have been recommended avg 8.5 as good and free.

any deas and is this the website? www.avg.com

how can i find a free version?

    avg has alwas been the staple standard free antivirus. However the latest version (8.5) can be a real resource-hog and might slow your computer down to a standstill for long periods. (google avgrsx.exe + processor for cases of people having trouble with it). I am going to get rid of mine. Suggestions I have had for alternatives include avast, avira and antivir.

    Avira (free version) seems to be the most popular at the moment, and it's very easy to use - install and forget. It updates the virus signatures every day without user intervention.

    downside of Avira is is does not scan emails in Outlook Express if you use it (if not then its fine ;) )

    Kaspersky for me, cheap on Amazon, or free if you use Barclays Online Banking.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Less of an issue these days as most ISP's will have scanned them before they reach you (though of course there's no harm in having two layers of protection).
