Barclaycard / Barclays Premier Error!!

Good Day MSE!!!
The other day I was on the phone with barclays premier discussing my connect card when we started discussing the initial barclaycard and I told him I wanted it, he applied and told me I was declined (oh well) but then today I'm on the phone to premier (yet again) and the lady on the phone tells me my application for the barclaycard classic has been declined. I was soooo angry. I KNEW for a fact I wouldnt get that card and thats why I didn't apply for it!!! Anyway so after the kind sunderlandland lady called barlcaycard and confirmed that it had been the classic mr premier applied for I was advised to write to barclaycard informing them of the internal error and requesting that my credit file be rectified. so I wrote this!! Ove course I have changed certian details for security purposes.

To whom it may concern at Barclaycard (preferably SOME WOMANS NAME HERE),
I am writing in relation to customer reference number: BLAH BLAH BLAH.
I have been told today by a member of the Barclays Premier banking team that this application was made for a Barclaycard Classic Visa. I would like to rectify this as I stated to the member of staff at the Barclays Premier banking team in Manchester who I believe was named SOMETHING that I wanted to apply for the Barclaycard Initial Visa as I am aware that at present my current credit history is vague and I am not currently on the electoral register. Therefore I would like the following to happen as I would not like my credit history to be damaged by this discrepancy.
I would like for Barclaycard to review my application for your credit based facility, however in place of the classic visa card I would like the decision to be based on the Barclaycard initial. If this is not possible (and only for this reason) then I would like for my credit history to be rectified with the major credit bereaus that were used when instigating this credit based facility search on my credit record.
I will be enclosing a detailed report of my circumstances, reasons why I should be approved for this card and why I have not been present on the electoral roll at my previous address etc.
I trust this letter will find its way to you well and that I will receive correspondence form you within the next 28 days.

So has this ever happened to anyone on here and is it worth complaining to barclays for some kind of appology compensation for damages and stress and wasting my time???

I think you can't quite have it both ways.
If you applied for the Initial, but they wrongly processed it as a Classic, then I think you could request the search is removed and end it there.
However if you wish to continue with the original Initial application as your letter implies, then I think you can't say "please approve me for this, and if I fail remove the search". But I think you are entitled to have them consider you for the Initial without an additional search.
So I think you should decide which way you want to go and reword your letter accordingly. I'm surprised they could have applied for the card without your signing something - and if you did, didn't that make it clear which you were applying for? No doubt I'm in the stone age and this was all done by phone.
I don't think just because Barclays made a mistake you are entitled to any compensation. Mistakes happen and I think this is more of an annoyance than causing you real damage. I'm sure not getting the card you want is a more serious inconvenience - but obviously you can't get compensation for that.0
