Hello

I want to know if I can cancel an application I made on thursday online for a warm front grant.
The reason I want to cancel is because I received a letter today and on it says, I quote
"If heating work is recommended the installer may need to carry out a technical assessment to estimate what materials they will need. Please note that if the total value of the reccommended work exceeds the grant value available, you may be asked to make a payment to cover the difference before the work can start"

I know my central heating is goosed as I had it assessed by a private firm a few years ago.
I have not yet had an assessor come round as I only made the application online on thursday.
As I have no spare cash this will not be possible, so I would like to know if I can just ring up and cancel.
Is it a hassle, will they make me pay anything?

thank you

Why d't you just let them com round nd assess it? If its going to cost you anything they will get you to a sign a contract before wrk can start, if you don'tsign they won't start?

Youve only asked for a assesment so far haven't you?

Yes you can cancel. But if they make the assessment and you are asked to pay a contribution, you can always back out then.

Also, it is worth contacting your local council as some councils will give top-up grants depending on your financial circumstances.

I just want to cancel, cos I dont want any sales type patter.
Can I just phone or email please?
Is there any hassle involved, like will they try and get me to pay.
I would rather cancel before someone came out.
I can get my loft insulated for free from my neighbours company.

    thanks for your replies

    Re-read post #3.

The first sentence seems to answer your question quite clearly.

Bundance, yes you can cancel. You just have to phone them.

An assessor isn't there to give you 'sales patter'. And even if they did, wouldn't it be worth it to get a free or subsidised heating system?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Looking at OP's other thread it seems that s/he is having a difficult time at the moment and possibly feels that she can't cope with the WF application.

Bundance, do you have a care worker or someone who could speak to warm front for you? It is very likely that there may not be any cost to you, and if your heating system isn't working properly, now is a good time to get it fixed before the cold weather comes.

Both sets of my grand parents have had central heating fitted through the warm front scheme. Both were asked to pay some extra - £400 to £500 I think it was. There was no sales patter tho - they just received a letter after the assessor had been explaining what the extra was for. To cancel all they had to do was call or write back saying so.

Personally I recommend you go ahead with assessment and see what comes back.

the scheme covers up 3500 quid now.
probably over half the applicants dont pay anything at all.
let it ride until they say you will have to pay a contribution. then you can decide what to do.
    Get some gorm.
  • Dont cancel - let them come round and assess first.

I have lived in my house 21 years and have never even had central heating but after becoming a single parent in October was able to apply because of the tax credit/child tax credit element of benefits.

I applied in January was advised that they would put me down for central heating and cavity wall insulation .
By March I had both the central heating and cavity wall insulation installed and have not had to contribute anything !
