Changing supplier (From British Gas)
Since reading and posting on here not long ago, I am amazed how much details/help are given and how much money people have managed to save. It has really helped and I was wondering if anyone could advise me on this.
We moved in to a two bed flat late last year and obviously started with both gas and electric with British Gas. We started off paying direct debits of £37 for gas and £32 for electric. In the space of 7 months we now pay Gas- £28 and Electric - £25. We pay direct debits monthly and online I notice we are in credit of £70 for electric and £85 for gas. This is an up to date bill with meter readings given.
What I want to know is, is this about average? I would like to go with a different supplier if needed but how do we...tell/decide exactly?! Everyone slates BG for being more expensive than others but i'm not sure if we are on a good 'deal' or not? Would love to get our direct debits down as we are always in at least £50+ worth of credit in both Gas and Electric. Would also be nice to get a bit of cash back, something we have never got!
I have checked compare sites online but wouldn't know where to start in terms of capped deals etc.
Any help, as usual appreciated!

Remember that you should be in credit just now to make up for the Winter using more energy. Check if you are on any special Tariff and see what rates you are being charged. Also check there are no tie in fees.As you have not yet gone though a whole year you will not know your annual consumption so may be worth checking the sites based on an average for 3300 electric and 20500 gas although it appears you may not be using this amount. Do not use the amount you are paying though. British Gas have Websaver3 so you may save just by changing tariff.
I also suggest after having gone through the comparison sites to then go directly to the cheaper site and check out all the small print and see if the same info is on the the suppliers site.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
What happens to the credit, does it just keep rolling to keep you ahead in terms of payments? Since we moved in, as I say, we've always been in credit by about £60+ in both Electricity and Gas0

The credit built up over the summer months will go towards the higher energy consumption we all experience in the winter months."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Sounds like we are paying what we should be then.
It seems tricky putting these details into comparison sites, we'll just stick with BG then0 -
You should be able to get actual consumption figures from your existing supplier if you haven't kept the bills/statements - just give them a ring.
Then use the consumption values in the comparison sites to get the best value deals to suit you
