I am visiting India for a training. I am taking my laptop etc, which I want to use there.

I want to buy a 'UK to India' adapter....

I googled few sites but they all seem to have only 'two pin'.I am looking for 3 pin adapter as I was told there will be voltage fluctuations

Any suggesstions where to buy this?

  • A third pin does not reduce voltage fluctuations, if India has two pins then that's what you will need. The power supply will not worry about fluctuations that's what it's designed to take care of. If the power fails completly then you can have a UPS these are large and very heavy but will give some time to work or shut down smoothly.

I understand what you mean........but is there a 3pin adapter available in the market?

You can buy then over there for less than a quid. They are difficult to find over here and will probably be ~ £20+.

India has three pin sockets, but they don't need the earth to be inserted to work and most applicances over there just use two pins.

I would strongly recommend getting a surge protector if using delicate/valuable applicances in India. Again, you can easily buy them there much cheaper than here.

don't buy an adapter! 0ften they are bigger than the plug and also block off two the second part of a 2 way wall socket. The tend also to be cheap, arc or just flimsy.

Take a 4 (or more) way UK adapter with you and put on a plug from that country on the uk plug end.

If the plug only has 2 pins and no earth, do not connect the green wire. Eurpoe tends only to have 2 pins, but the third pin is in the socket (rather than the plug) and goes into the hole in the plug.

Remember to take a screwdriver with you.

I did this when I went to Europe and by the time you put your phone laptop, satanv, friends phone and shaver on it, will make you think thy you never bought the 6 way one!
