I am having problems with my laptop at the moment. Every so often the laptop turns it self off. It has happened about three times now, when I have been connected to the internet. Do you think that I have a virus or something on my laptop. I am running a virus scan at the moment.

It sounds more like the laptop is getting overheated. Are you using it on your lap or a bed? If so the fans will struggle to keep the laptop cool. I'd suggest buying some compressed air from Maplins or somewhere similar e.g.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45631 (I'm sure there are cheaper ones around)
Turn the laptop off, spray this into the vents (outside unless you want dust all over your house), then give it 5 minutes before turning it back on.
If you really did want to check for viruses etc. then I'd suggest the following:
Install Avira, update then do a full scan: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?part=dl-10322935&subj=dl&!!!!!button&cdlPid=11012914
Install Malwarebytes, update then do a full scan: http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-8022_4-10804572&ontId=8022_4&spi=7b3e98daf390ca082fb36b632ae5216b&lop=link<ype=dl_dlnow&pid=11080953&mfgId=6290020&merId=6290020&pguid=ouLqtAoPjAIAAEUK1jcAAADK&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.cnet.com%2F3001-8022_4-10804572.html%3Fspi%3D7b3e98daf390ca082fb36b632ae5216b%26part%3Ddl-10804572
Install Superantispyware, update then do a full scan: http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
Install CCleaner and run it: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/download/58156f96255767aeec553947d393ec2c/
Install any available Windows updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/0 -

A table is fine. I'd definately suggest the compressed air.
Cheaper option: http://www.amazon.co.uk/5-Star-Duster-Compressed-Flammable/dp/B000MQ7DZC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249155461&sr=1-50
