Free and legally don't go together as fair as I know.

    Good luck!

You can get music of unsigned bands for free. There was some advert on the radio from channel4. I haven't looked into it though.

There's quite a lot of stuff to be found via the Creative Commons website. Don't know how much of it is 'free' though...

There are lots of places for unsigned/independant bands.

Podcasts are quite good. Often they play a single song from a new band and link to band's site where more free stuff is available.

Three ones I know for new Scottish bands:
    Tartan Podcast
    Three From Leith
    Mellow Monday Show

    New
    Radio 1 Best Unsigned

An American organization called IPAC decided that the best way to stop Senators passing stupid technology laws was to try to get them to use an IPOD. So they're sending them out free with a huge amount of free stuff.

Which you can download yourself here
(As a big package or by clicking through to the individual sites)

    :)

I read in computer active magazine a few weeks ago about software that lets you download music from radio stations, which it says is legal.
I'm about to ask anyone if they have a copy of that issue which I think was 212 or 211
The software (if thats it's correct name) is about £20
