ANy benefits for over 50-year old?

A neighbour asked me for help. He's heard there is something he could possibly claim when he's over 50 and on low income but I've never heard of it so thought I'd check on here.
A while ago he was made redundant and since then he's been working through agencies (on and off, no contract as such, basically when there's work they call him).
He lives in one rented room and gets some tax credits.
Thanks a lot

Nothing age specific, unless he is thinking of PC and that is for 60 and over.0
