Reapplying for Credit Cards

Advice please...when is a good time to reapply for a card after being refused twice. I just discovered applying for a second after being refused the first is a big mistake and can wreck an otherwise very good credit profile !. (as read on this site) Last applied to Bank of Scotland in early June and Tesco just before that. Had no problems for 3 years prior to this when I took out 3 or 4 simply to use the 0% interest period then closed them. I am about to close down the last one I had and perhaps my mistake was not waiting until I had done so before applying. I have applied to creditexpert online for the free months trial to see if there are any errors but rather disconcertingly I have had to produce various proof that I exist and that in itself is a bit worrying. Will those 2 searches mean I should wait a long time before reapplying again. Heeeelp please !

Having 6 or 7 searches within a period of 6 months will not damaged your credit file, but doing several applications within a few weeks may ring some alarm bells to potential lenders, you might seem desperate to them to get credit. If I were you I would keep at least 1 CC account open even if you don't use it, simply because a lot of lenders don't very much like seeing just closed account on a file. Make sure that your credit file is up to scratch (current & previous addresses & time at them, registered on electoral roll, all your accounts ship shape). Might be an idea to check as well Equifax as many lenders search them and not always Experian. Then maybe wait a few weeks to re-apply for a CC.

I agree. Are you on the electoral roll at your current address?

Experian are unpredictable. Ms Chappy has a very similar record to Mr Chappy in every way - including electoral roll.

I had no problems with Experian. But they wanted Ms Chappy to send off ID proof. So I'd say this in itself isn't a cause for concern.
