Hi all,
I've stuck with Scottish Power since I moved into my house in 2005. I've opted for fixed rate deals and gone for online billing etc. for as many discounts as possible and although frequently checking Uswitch etc. it seems to stay very competitive...?
For example last year I used roughly 3264KwH of Electric and roughly 8850KwH of gas. With my current deal, I pay the following:
Electric - 17.43p day standing rate, 8.869p per kwh
Gas - 15.64p day standing rate, 2.660p per kwh
In my calculations, it gave a total of £645.60 for last year (excluding discounts)
I just did uswitch and the best deal worked out at £744.12...

Does anyone know what the Scottish Power discounts are, I think it's something like £10 for dual fuel, £15 for online, not sure about direct debit.

Of course, taking those into account, it's about £620.
I've already turned a British Gas sales person away at my door on these calculations and Utility Warehouse seems to work out considerably more.

It makes me think I'm doing the calculations wrong or something...?!

Do you have an online account? If so you can easily work out your annual spend, including discounts. I'm on a fixed deal and it is still cheaper than anything else out there - just. When you take into consideration the £50 to leave, it is definitely not worth it for me.

£50 to leave? I didn't realise that. I've never changed electric/gas supplier so wasn't sure if there was any charges in doing so apart from when moving house.
Mine's fixed, I can't remember until when and it's also online, dual fuel.
I e-mailed them to query my discounts and they said about a £14.50 discount for being online but the direct debit discount varies according to my location and usage they said which I think is incoporated in the different unit rates etc and can't easily be calculated.
I worked out that the dual fuel discount is £10.50, total discounts being £25.
The total for the year is the £620.60, beating the best quote by USwitch which was £744.12.
According to Uswitch, paying £744.12 by switching would save me about £70 a year???!!!

Those look like the rates for the old Fixed Price Energy 2011 tariff for 'Midland' region. (If you signed up before July 2008, I think there is no cancellation fee)

You forgot to add 5% VAT though to your calculations.

Nevertheless, fwiw, I'm on the same FPE 2011 deal for Seeboard region, and I find it is still the cheapest SP deal for me, but only 'just cheaper' than the best deals available by about 5%.
