Give up style for comfort..

We are looking to replace our leather suite which is very uncomfortable and have been looking for weeks to find something that we like but is comfy too.. trouble is all the sofas we like are just not comfortable we both have bad backs , there are so many now with low backs and loose cushions, or the seats are too deep leaving my feet dangling:rotfl:or they are huge and won't fit in our smallish living room. We found some that are really comfy in Furnitureland I think they were Gplan they are expensive but so comfortable the trouble is they look like the sort of thing Violet Bucket would have in her home.. , you know the ones I mean:rolleyes:... so do I give up the style I want and end up with a sofa I hate the look of ? Or buy another 'nice looking' sofa that I just know I won't be comfortable in... I suppose if I ordered it in a plain colour it might not look so bad..
Any thoughts?

Personally if you have bad backs I would go for comfort rather than style and your back will thank you for it. One thing I would say though is beware of sofas intended to be designed for bad backs and comfort etc as they're sometimes even worse! My parents brought a 3 piece stressless suite recently and whilst the armchairs with a footstool are very comfortable the sofa is hideous! Every single person that has visited them in the past year since having it has said how uncomfortable they are, when I go round I end up sitting on a cushion on the floor because it's better!0

I'd say don't give up too soon. If you've got the budget to spend on a more expensive suite you should be able to find something that will be comfortable without you hating it.
If you know the comfortable one was G-plan, have you tried checking out their website to see if they have other suites that look better that might also be comfortable.
Also try looking around for independent furniture stores rather than the big sheds - they are often more likely to carry the more expensive more engineered type sofas that might offer the support and comfort you need.
Personally, I think in the end comfort has to win though (you can't really see how stylish the sofa is when you're sitting in it!). With the more expensive sofas you usually get a much wider range of upholstery choices, which should help and maybe you could use something like over-sized scatter cushions to give it a more modern look when you're not there.0 -
Go for comfort and have a look at the GPlan website, there are lost of non-Hyacinth suites, then try them out in Harrods/John Lewis/Heals. They are expensive, but I've had two and price per sit they work out a darn site cheaper than worn out in 2 years DFS suites..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

I'll come back if I have some luck..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
