Outlook Express hanging!

Please help! I can't access outlook express as every time I open it is just freezes as soon as it tries to transfer the first mesasge in the queue. I have done all the usual....switched off everything for 5 mins...done a system restore...even in desperation rang NTL to see if prob was their end. She says she can see all my e-mails and can't send me a test message so problem at my end. I am running an old PC and have limited memory. Also have over 1300 e-mails in the deleted items folder (whoops).
I am, as you can tell, not a whizz so am hoping there is some really obvious answer to this.
Mnay thanks:o

Probably corrupted Outbox in that case. You might start by deleting all those deleted ones to clear some space if you can, it's crazy to have all those clogging it up.
If you open it does it automatically go to Send? If not delete the old emails first before you try to send.
Also can you delete the first email in the queue which may be corrupted and preventing the others from sending?
PS: I don't know of any way that Virgin can 'see' the emails in your Outbox that haven't been sent yet.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Sorry. Don't think I explained myself too well. I cannot delete the items in my deleted items folder as the whole screen is frozen and will not let me click on deleted items to get rid. I feared my laziness was the problem.
The e-mails that Virgin can "see" are the ones waiting to get into my inbox which I have now accessed directly via the virgin website but obviously can't get at all the messages clogging up my deleted items box.
Thanks anyhows

Can you go offline (unplug your internet connection) to stop it polling for messages as soon as you open OE?
Otherwise you'll have to recreate your Outbox as below
When you repair Outlook Express folders, all the original folder content is lost.
Shut down Outlook Express
Click [Start]
Select Find
Select Files or Folders.
Enter the name of the corrupt folder
e.g. inbox.dbx
Click [Search]
When search has found the folder, right click on it and select rename
Call it inbox.old (where inbox is the original folder name)
When you restart Outlook Express, a new folder will be created.
The folders used by Outlook Express are called:
inbox.dbx
outbox.dbx
sent*items.dbx
deleted*items.dbx
drafts.dbxNo free lunch, and no free laptop
