Barclays madness?

I was recently informed by Barclays that my credit card limit was being reduced, this after over 30 years with them. ( to promote sensible borrowing or so it says)
My wife then recieved a letter asking her (because she was such a good customer) if she would like to go Platignum. She is the second card holder on my account retired and on a pension.I on the other haad as the principle card holder , pay the bills, work and have a very good salary paid into our Barclays account and get a reduced credit limit. What a shambles.

With a very good salary I wouldn't be too concerned about the credit limit being reduced. You shouldn't need a high limit and it will protect you from getting into too much debt.

What are the implications of your wife getting a platinum card? Is it a higher limit than at present? All she has to do is decline the offer if she doesn't want it. If you don't need the facility, do without credit cards altogether.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

Barclaycard is not the only company to cut credit limits and you're not the first customer to have yours reduced, but I don't suppose that's any consolation.

Btw, the bank's credit card arm has limited info' about your current account due to data protection regulations, so your salary has no bearing on the decision.

The best solution is to vote with your feet. Provided that you have a decent credit rating, there's no shortage of good credit cards to choose from.

This doesn't mean she would necessarily be accepted, if she were to apply. There are no guarantees.
