How much to have electric cooker fitted?

Our cooker decided to break yesterday, its about 4 yrs old and exactly a year ago we paid out for a new heating element, looks like the same thing has happened again wondering whether the man put a second hand part in last time, think we paid around £80, we've decided not to get it repaired again and to buy a new one. Thing is even though its electric its not a case of pushing in a plug, looks like its wired into a switch on a wall, not happy for darling hubby to do this, and wondered how much i should expect to pay to get the old one disconnected and the new one connected, i will dispose of the old one myself.
I don't have much luck with tradesmen rarely do they turn up to do quotes or if they do they never get back to me and when i chase them up they tell me they are too busy to do the work, when i've not even said when i want it done by. Only last week i left several messages trying to get someone in to install central heating, no one has got back to me yet, the same thing happened last year and we went without heating. You would think people are crying out for work.

Ask friends, family or workmates for recommendations. Don't go with any old quote from someone out the phone book. My OH is a builder and gets all his work from recommendation, he doesn't advertise - hasn't even got his name on the van!
As for the oven, do you have other elec work you could bundle together to give the spark half a days work? Might be worth their while then. (I'm not saying this is right, but they want to make some cash).0 -
If a proper FCU is already fitted, and is suitably rated for the new cooker you are installing, then it's just a matter of connecting the cable to the FCU. If you can wire a plug then you can do it yourselves. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I got a price list from Gas-Elc the other day which had install electric cooker on it at £50+VAT so £57.50.
Not sure they would also disconnect the old one for that price.0 -
The most important thing is to SWITCH OFF THE ELECTRICITY FIRST! :cheesy:
Apart from that, it should be as easy as wiring a plug.
A tradesman might charge you an hour's work for it, which would be reasonable.0 -
have you already purchased the new cooker? if not you might be able to negotiate with the retailer to get connection and removal of old appliance for a reasonable price.0

Sorry to hijack the thread a tad but i have just bought a new oven 9delivered today)
Samsung BT621VDST S Oven Electric Single Oven
Unfortunately i have found that our old oven is plugged into a normal looking socket (hob is on one plug, oven was on the other). and the new oven needs hard wiring.
Is there anyway round this as this could make our new oven a good £200 more expensive!Slimming World Adventure!
