Morrisons over Tescos etc

Options
I usually get my groceries in Tescos but, the last twice, I went to Morrisons. I calculated up the grocery bill and if I had bought my groceries in Tescos I would have saved 1p against Morrisons, but...

In Morrisons I got 750mls of Morning Fresh for 68p. Only 500ml ones in Tescos.

In Morrison I got 3.45kg of Morrisons washing powder for £3.74 against 3kg for Tescos washing powder.

In Morrisons I got 125g of finest cooked chicken breast for 19p which was lovely with brown rice and veg for dinner.

I found Morrisons offers better than Tescos and when there are items reduced in Tescos the prices aren't that greatly reduced.

I find that my local Morrison has declined in quality since it ceased to be Safeway. My nearest Tesco is a short drive away so I try to to as much shopping there in one trip. I also have a Netto near me which I only use for household cleaners etc. (Fussy about food quality).

Price-wise I agree that Morrison compares well agains Tesco.

I go to Tesco weekly and Morrisons monthly. If you pick the cheapest stuff in each you save quite a lot.

I agree with others that Tesco's offers are generally poor value but that said Morrisons current offers are the poorest for quite a while. On the other hand Tesco's has always got reduced stuff up for grabs whilst Morrisons don't seem to bother.

We used to use Tesco and have switched to Morrisons for the following reasons:

1 Better fresh fruit and veg in terms of price and quality
2 Better offers - on a £40 shop we will regularly save £6 at Morrisons, while same shop in Tesco will save about £3

It does depend what you buy we don't get cleaning products from there (they are from Costco) or meat (butchers or Costco) so most of what we have is fresh things. Also I find things tend to be short dated at Tesco while that happens less at Morrisons.

Our food bill has definitely decreased since shopping at MOrrisons, partly as well because they don't tell additional things like CD's etc as much as Tesco.

I like them both in their own way. i like tesco, because you get clubcard points, helpful assistants at the checkout, the fruit and veg is nice although not as big a selection as morrisons.
it is a lot smaller than morrisons, but that can be a good thing, because if i take my 2 y/o i can let him out of the trolley and know that he wont get lost.
I like the offers that morrisons have, they have good BOGOF's, and their fresh meat is the best around.
Saying this , i now shop at Aldi, as im trying to cut down, so instead of spending 100+ at M+T i now spend less than £60.
  • I'm finding morrisons getting more expensive but I do agree its a better atmosphere - tesco always seems so clinical and harshly lit - or is that just me??!!
I don't buy my fruit and veg in tesco, I don't think its good value or quality.
Morrisons are fine when they have offers you want, but they haven't had any decent offers that apply to me for a while. Their bakery and fish counters are better than tesco.
I won't go in the bit of tesco that doesn't sell food if I have to go in as like redbedhead - the shopping bill increases if Mr HQ is let loose in that department!
I find it easier to buy nice cheeses in morrisons than tesco or asda.
I did a major shop in asda and tesco more or less beat or matched their prices.

I use both. Morrisons definitely had much more and better BOGOFs which I usually take advantage of and the quality seems good. I do like Tesco too, they have some good own brand products and I like the way they will(sometimes:rolleyes: ) open more tills if its busy and offer to pack for you.I find that its better to take advantage of the best bits of both!;)

I find morrisons alot better for fruit and veg as they do small quantities, i don't always want a whole melon nor cabbage and they will cut it for you if there are none on the shelves, also they have a gr8 fish counter too with lots of choice.

  • I definately prefer morrisons above all other supermarkets.the only quibble i have is that their reductions are not good enough!!! but the meat, fruit and veg and fish is of a far,far higher quality than the other supermarkets.the bogof are also outstanding.

I prefer morrisons over tescos because they do a lot of preparing on site.

Meat is cut and packaged in store. So you can the size cut you want. Rather than prepacked stuff in most tescos.

Also I try and avoid shopping at tescos as I don't like them. They are taking £1 for every £8 on the highstreet.

If we are not careful we will not have a choice. And all these little Tescos expresses popping up everywhere.

I do use tescos for the odd special offer. But prefer to go else where for the bulk of my shopping.

It is not just cost. But I have to travel 7 miles to get to my local tescos and unless I have some other reason to go there costs me extra in fuel.

Morrisons is 7 miles for me. But due to other things we go to that area at least twice a month in the evenings. When I prefer to go shopping. So does not cost me extra in fuel.

But once I get a job I am going to try and start using a butcher for my meat and I already use a greengrocers for most of my veg. Trying to get less dependent on supermarkets.

    Yours

The morrisons meat products Ive bought ( reduced mind) are rubbish. Chicken wrapped in ham & cheese, etc, really ,pretty poor.I only picked them up as iM on an economy drive & they Were yellow label. No free range meat in my local one either. The only bargains I seem to find eg the bogofs are processed to hell stuff, coke/ crisps/ sugary cereals/ which I try to avoid, plenty of junk on the Bogofs when i go there. Saying that their organic is cheap, but not as cheap as sainsburys for the stuff I buy.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
